Fred L. Shusterich - President
Fred L. Shusterich has more than 28 years of experience in material
handling systems design and engineering, coal and dry bulk product
transportation, marketing and business development. As president, Mr.
Shusterich oversees the operation of the company as well as the operation
of its Superior Midwest Energy Terminal. Mr. Shusterich also focuses on
the supply of transportation and coal-related services to Detroit Edison as
well as to third-party utility and industrial customers in the Great Lakes
basin.
Mr. Shusterich joined the company in 1986 as assistant general manager
after nine years in a succession of engineering management positions with
Ispat-Inland Steel Mining Company.
Mr. Shusterich earned a masters degree in business administration and a
bachelor of science degree in chemistry and environmental science from the
University of Minnesota. Mr. Shusterich has also completed training in
quality assurance management at the University of Manitoba.
Mr. Shusterich has published technical papers on a variety of topics
related to the transportation and export of western coal and on the
production of iron ore pellets.
Professional affiliations include, among others, The American Society for
Quality Control, the American Society of Mining and Metallurgical
Engineers, The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, and the
Montana Coal Council.
Marshall A. Elder - Director-Terminal Operations
Marshall A. Elder has more than 30 years of experience, primarily in
electric generation station engineering, operations and maintenance. As
Manager-Terminal Operations, Mr. Elder is responsible for controlling
operations, maintenance and the day-to-day activities of the Superior
Midwest Energy Terminal.
Mr. Elder joined the company in 1996 as General Superintendent and was
named to Manager-Terminal Operations in 1998 and Director-Terminal Operations in 2004. Prior to joining Midwest Energy Resources, Mr. Elder served in engineering/management positions for more than 13 years at a 700 megawatt electric generating station. That experience included start-up of the newly constructed station in 1982.
Mr. Elder earned a bachelor of science degree in electronics from Indiana
State University. Mr. Elder has completed several management and
supervisory short courses and has served on various management and
supervisory development committees.
